‘Game of Thrones’ season 4 video: More on Emilia Clarke’s Dany, more huge ratings
Stop us when this sounds familiar: “Game of Thrones” is cruising to some additional ratings records.
For the episode of the show airing on Sunday night, “First of His Name” drew a new record in 7.2 million viewers. Given that this is HBO, and that limits the audience somewhat, these numbers are enormous. No wonder that the show was renewed for two seasons a matter of weeks ago. These numbers are even crazier when you remember that the show picks up millions more viewers via the DVRs of subscribers and also those who choose to watch the show On Demand or via their HBO GO app.
Just in case you want some more news about the likes of Dany (Emilia Clarke) and Jon Snow (Kit Harrington), the video below features showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss explaining some of what their plans were in cultivating these stories. The big reveal in this episode was actually Littlefinger’s role in the death of Jon Arryn, but there were a variety of other stories that slowly progressed. For example, Jon Snow had an epic battle, and Dany realized that there is a difference between being a conqueror, and being an actual ruler of the places that she has taken over.
Could we see “Game of Thrones” setting another record at some point this season? There is no reason to doubt it. The show’s audience is still gaining, and this is one of those few series where you really don’t want to watch it after the fact. Even just waiting an hour could cause you to run the risk of being completely spoiled.
