‘American Idol XIII’ results: Was Jessica Meuse, Sam Woolf, Jena Irene eliminated via twist?
At the start of the “American Idol XIII” results show that aired on Fox Thursday night, host Ryan Seacrest stood up and proclaimed that there were going to be some very big surprises. Anytime we hear such a comment, we start to shake in our boots a little bit. Was there a tie (very unlikely), or did a favorite like Jena Irene or Alex Preston get sent home?
Before we got to the results, the producers still found a way to make this 30-minute show feel like it was going on for a full hour. There was filler content, general nonsense from the judges, and also a performance from Keith Urban that included line after line that should feel familiar to any country fan.
Then, we found out the “twist,” which is completely ridiculous and ruins the entire premise of the show: The contestants are all going to be voting if they want someone to be eliminated this week. Since when do they get power? This isn’t “Survivor”! This just screams to us that the producers didn’t want someone to go home, so they came up with this to keep things exciting. It’s either that or they saw the horribly-low ratings from last night that show that nobody seems to be that interested in the contestants this season. The appeal for this show was that it was never that stressful on the contestants at this point outside of America’s vote.
Granted, we said all of this above thinking that the contestants were all just going to vote for the heck of it to keep the top 5 the same. After all, anything can happen. So while we didn’t necessarily love the idea of the twist, we do love that there were two contestants who were bold enough to actually make this move. Sam Woolf was eliminated, and now we have the final four we expected going into this week. Grade: B- (mostly for the look on J.Lo’s face when she learned that someone voted “no”).
