‘Glee’ season 5, episode 19 preview: First look at Chris Colfer-written ‘Old Dog, New Tricks’
When “Glee” returns to the air next week, it’ll be doing so with an episode entitled “Old Dog, New Tricks” that Fox is clearly promoting with one key strategy in mind: Reminding everyone that Chris Colfer devoted his writing talents to this hour. It’s the penultimate episode of the entire season, and one that should shed some more light not only on what Rachel’s future is, but how Kurt is also going to move forward following the reveal that Blaine is seeing his star skyrocket thanks to what happened with Shirley MacLaine’s socialite character.
Before you do anything else, take a look now at what Fox says is coming up during the hour:
“In an episode written by series star Chris Colfer, Rachel attempts to salvage her reputation among Broadway gossipers by hiring Santana as her publicist and creating a charity for rescue animals. Meanwhile, Kurt nabs the lead role in a retirement home production of ‘Peter Pan.'”
Rachel’s reputation has, after all, taken a huge hit. Her decision to skip a day of “Funny Girl” to try out for a TV show, and lie about it, has changed what everyone thinks about her. Is Santana really going to be able to help? This does in some strange way seem like a perfect career choice for her, given her attitude and relentless pursuit to support what she believes in. However, she has no experience in this at all! Couldn’t Rachel afford someone who actually works in PR? In may be a much better idea at the end of the day.
Ultimately, this episode looks pretty fun, and is likely not going to do anything too emotional. If we see that, it could happen more in the finale “The Untitled Rachel Berry Project,” which seems to be more of a nod to where she could end up on Fox.
