‘The Big Bang Theory’ season 7, episode 21 review: Did anything REALLY happen?

Here it is -The funny thing about Thursday night’s new episode of “The Big Bang Theory” is that despite it being the return of “anything can happen Thursdays,” there actually was not that much that actually did happen … at least until the final few seconds.

More than anything else, this was almost the show’s version of an exposition episode from a serial. For Howard, this meant the introduction to whatever trouble that his mother is going through. She is started to fall ill, and that is a story that will carry through the rest of the season. The same may go for Sheldon’s future in the science world, and Penny’s role in the ape movie. There were no answers in here, instead race jokes from Sheldon (still very uncomfortable to watch, given how CBS freaked out about “Big Brother” doing the same thing) and also Amy dressing up like a Catholic schoolgirl to say sorry to Sheldon for faking an illness when he really didn’t seem to care.

Ultimately, the biggest issue with this episode was just that there weren’t that many laughs. This has been mostly a pretty funny season, but Sheldon’s scenes with a psychic were short-lived and disappointing. Raj has the most functional relationship at the moment, and it is ironically with a girl in Emily we are only starting to get to know. Sooner or later, though, we imagine that their honesty with each other is going to have some bumps in the road.

So overall, let’s just hope that the remaining episodes this season, which include one themed around “Star Wars Day,” are a little more exciting. Grade: C.
