‘The Following’ season 2, episode 14 review: Is Claire the new killer?

Following -The Following” is a show that has really tried to make itself intense at almost every moment, but there was a good five minutes during the Joe Carroll church showdown where we were repeating a classic Batman line of “what are you trying to prove?”.

For the penultimate episode of the season, we wish the show spent more time with Claire throughout, or doing anything that wasn’t continuing along the boring religion storyline. Seeing someone slice their throat open on this show isn’t exciting; if someone does something subtle at this point, it’s much more interesting than anything else.

When we did finally get into the Claire story in the last ten minutes, we had an epic showdown of Emma vs. Claire that was mostly all about the fact that Emma was completely jealous of this woman still. Claire wanted to go to Joe with her own motives, and of course Emma didn’t want that. Surprisingly, though, the producers actually had Claire kill her! They got rid of one of the show’s most notable characters! This was a bold move that allows us to get a little bit more respect for the show after the religion nonsense.

We would’ve been happy to end this episode with Claire … but then, there was more from Joe in the church. The episode ended with more supervillain monologuing, and more of Ryan shuffling around, not sure of what he was going to do. Did Mike die at his hands? We have a hard time believing anything until we actually see their dead body. Heck, we have a hard time still thinking that Emma is dead right now. Grade: C.
