Pilot watch: ‘NCIS’ season 11, ‘Arrow’ spin-offs look good; ‘Supernatural: Bloodlines’ not guaranteed
The CBS television family seems to love creating spinoffs. How else do you explain all of the spin-offs on both CBS along with sister station The CW? We’ve got a few updates for you now on how some of these spin-offs are faring, and whether or not you are going to see them come on the air in the fall. (This information is courtesy of Deadline.)
“NCIS: New Orleans” – The spin-off may not have delivered huge ratings by “NCIS” standards when it came on the air earlier this spring, but it was generally well-received, and executives are high on the show.
“How I Met Your Dad” – Apparently, the idea that most “How I Met Your Mother” fans hated the finale is not scaring the network away. It’s one of the favorites among the comedies right now.
“CSI” spin-off – This is more about tech crime, and is still in the running, but not as likely as either of the pilots mentioned above for The CW.
“The Flash” – Over on The CW side, you may as well go ahead and write in this show as coming on in the fall. There is strong buzz around it, and it’s already been planted into the “Arrow” universe.
“Supernatural: Bloodlines” – Despite “Supernatural” being on the air for nine years, the spin-off is not a sure thing. Reaction to the April 29 episode should help executives make a decision.
CBS is going to have an extremely competitive field this year of pilots to get on the air, mostly because of the fact that NFL football is coming to the network on Thursday nights, and there won’t be a whole lot of room for other stuff. Ultimately, the network may only pick up a couple of new comedies and a couple of dramas.
We’ll have more news on all of this stuff moving forward, so be sure to share your thoughts and expectations below! You can also sign up now to get further scoop via our CarterMatt Newsletter.
