‘Sherlock’ season 4: Benedict Cumberbatch on racing, renewal prospects
Everyone knows that a “Sherlock” season 4 is going to happen … it’s all just a matter of when. There are many factors at play here, including the busy schedules of executive producer Steven Moffat (currently working on “Doctor Who”), fellow EP Mark Gatiss, and the variety of actors who all take part in the show. Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman are front and center there, and they always have a variety of commitments.
But, before almost anything else can happen, the show has to be renewed … and that is where we currently are now. The BBC probably won’t make a formal announcement until schedules are arranged and scripts are ready to go, but that doesn’t make Cumberbatch’s recent response on a “Sherlock” question any less funny. The actor was being interviewed recently by BBC Sport at the Malaysian Grand Prix, and he gave a very simple answer as to if we could be seeing more of the show soon:
“You work for the corporation, ask them.”
For the sake of context, we should add that this was said with a laugh, and Benedict was by no means trying to be obnoxious with this response. He just realizes that when it comes to pushing a renewal forward, there really is not anything on his end that he can do right now. It’s a lengthy waiting game. (There is also auto racing talk in the video, if that is your sort of thing.)
Just for some fun, though, to keep you engaged during a wait, take a look below at the new Unnecessary Censorship from BleepIt for the show, which is starting to go a little viral. You’ve seen this idea dozens of times, but never with Cumberbatch front and center! Good times, and good laughs.
