‘The Mentalist’ season 6, episode 15 review: Rigsby and Van Pelt’s goodbye
Many fans of “The Mentalist” knew that it was coming, but on Sunday night, the moment finally happened: The end of the road for Rigsby and Van Pelt.
But, have no fear: We’re not seeing the end for the characters themselves. Neither Owain Yeoman or Amanda Righetti had to sit through the turmoil of having their characters killed off; instead, they just had the opportunity to go through the wringer and get closure when it comes to who targeting former members of the CBI.
The end of the story for them revolved largely around being involved in a nasty shootout in the mountains, and that winter setting helped us to understand better the title of “White As the Driven Snow.” We’re going to miss these two characters, but at the same time, we feel good that there is an end. There may not have been so many interesting stories with them left to tell, and they can move forward and be both happy and out of harm’s way.
When it comes to the rest of the episode … well, there wasn’t much else. This story was more about seeing what Risby would do in order to save his wife, and that included going crazy to the extent that we saw Jane do when it came to stopping Red John. There was a nice little Jane / Lisbon moment at the end of the episode, and we’ll just think of that as a sign of nice things to come. At this point, that is really the story that we and so many other fans of “The Mentalist” want to see. Grade: B.
