‘White Collar’ season 6 officially ordered by USA; what’s the curious part of it?

What's next? -Last night, it was already looking pretty clear that fans of “White Collar” were going to have a reason to smile, and now, it’s official: The show is coming back for another season on USA.

So what is the part of the story that is a little bit unusual to us? That in their press release today, the network wouldn’t necessarily confirm that the six-episode seas ahead is the last one for the show. Maybe they really want to keep their options open here to see how the rest of their new programming coming up fares, but we feel pretty whole-heartedly that this is going to be the end for the show, even more strongly than we did when “Psych” was ordered for its eighth season last year.

For whatever reason, USA has a habit of ordering seasons, filming them, and announcing a little later on that it is the end of the road for the show. Maybe they feel like that is a little bit better of a marketing move. They did it with “Burn Notice,” they did it with “Psych,” and we have a feeling that they are probably doing it here. Do we understand why? Not exactly, since it feels like the network would be better served to make their decisions and their announcements a good while in advance.

Regardless of what decision is ultimately made by USA, the one thing that you can still celebrate here is that there is going to be some more “White Collar” one way or another. If this is the end, then be glad that there is an opportunity for Neal Caffrey’s story to be wrapped up in the way in which it deserves.

Obviously, we’ll have some more news on the show’s future soon, and to get some more updates from us via email, sign up now courtesy of our CarterMatt Newsletter.
