‘Arrow’ season 2 spoilers: Stephen Amell on an Felicity / Oliver / Sara issue
There’s a ton of great stuff to look forward to when “Arrow” season 2 picks up, but we realize that there is also something that could make all of the Oliver / Felicity shippers out there a little nervous: How the new relationship between Oliver and Sara could end up changing almost everything.
First of all, it’s pretty apparent that nothing is going to just go back to being the same now that the Canary is in the picture, and that she and Oliver are reconnecting. It could make Laurel angry when she finds out, and for Felicity, it may make her uncomfortable … especially when you remember that Oliver told her a little earlier this season that he didn’t want to be with someone romantically that he really cared about.
So how do you explain that little comment now that Sara is back? Stephen Amell, in a chat with TVLine, says that the real difference between Sara and Felicity is that the former is not someone who really needs protection to the same degree:
“Part of what Oliver said to Felicity in that episode is that he doesn’t know if he’s willing to open himself up to having feelings for her, if in fact he does, because the danger is so imminent when you’re in close proximity to him…. Him working with her and her working with him is one thing, but a relationship is another.”
We suspect that this is not ultimately going to impact the job performance of Felicity too much, mostly because she is someone who understands her role in helping out Team Arrow, but feelings are still feelings, and she cannot help it if she takes some of it a little personally that there is someone new invading her world.
Do you think that Sara’s presence could actually end up accelerating the Olicity relationship in some way? Share below, and visit the link here if you are curious in getting some more “Arrow” scoop your way.

Overall, I think that Olicity will definitely, absolutely happen. it’s just a matter of time for Oliver to be ready to go into that lasting relationship with Felicity that he will cherish her and realize there is more to this relationship with her than all of his other relationships could ever have. it’s something they built since day one since they met each other and decided to take on the journey of saving the world. I understand with the whole Sara/Oliver thing, but we know its not going to last Oliver and Sara may be alike in their past and combat skills but they are going to clash in personality as well, its like playing fire with fire, as well for Felicity she is the light in his dark world and no one, I mean no one can replace her, even if they tried.

Well there you go so you have just literally said in your comment ( ”Olicity ain’t happing at least this year” ) so from that I am saying you think in the back of your some-what small mind that it will happen down the line. ( In to which it will. )
You bring me a good enough story for me to like Sara and Oliver or even just Sara on her own then I will put my hands down and say I agree.
Until then – !!COMPLETELY DISAGREE!! :D

I do think that Olicity fans need to be careful with how they present their arguments. It doesn’t help to bash another character without offering some insight as to why you perceive a storyline a certain way.
My number one issue with Sara is the same as with Laurel: the backstory is too toxic. I did not see the set up between Oliver and Sara’s romance–in fact, to me, it looks like Sara does these things because Laurel is mean to her. She hesitates going on the boat until Laurel calls her a bitch (“I wasn’t trying to be a bitch.” “Title of your autobiography.” Best. Line. Ever.) Only after that does she agree to go with Oliver. And then, after Laurel calls her out on ruining their lives, Sara does the EXACT SAME THING: runs into Oliver’s arms. Before this, I didn’t see that she was interested in Oliver romantically at all (with Nyssa, yes. With Oliver, not so much). Plus, Oliver says all this romantic crap to Laurel at the end of last season, and now to Sara. They’re sisters! If she were anyone else, I might be able to get on board, but the idea that Oliver is tearing apart two sisters’ relationship because he’s DONE THIS BEFORE makes me not like him…or her.
Also, I do get annoyed when people say the writers will cave to the Olicity fandom. I’m a writer. You can’t convince me to put on the page something that doesn’t exist. If I get feedback that makes my story better, I might consider it. If it goes against my story or my characters, I wouldn’t. Feedback and making changes is very different from pandering…and I feel like the term “pandering” is very insulting to writers. The Arrow writers will do what they will do, but give them SOME credit for what they put on the screen, whether or not you like it. Labeling them as “sellouts” by accusing them of “fan pandering” is incredibly disrespectful, in my opinion.

Thanks for your post i see your viewpoints however i feel their was definetly set up between Sara and Oliver since ep 4 it was just more subtle and less on the nose like the Olicity stuff jmo.People seem to be forgetting that Dinah let Sara onto the boat because Sara was in LOVE with Ollie plus they have been through hell and back together why shouldn’t they be aloud to be happy together?
BansheeCry
February 25, 2014 @ 11:28 am
I’m gonna chime in.. Honestly–a relationship that is based on both of them being damaged isn’t gonna last (or–be happy one). Diggle made a very good point using his relationship with his wife about it. “They don’t know how to be together without a war.” Personally–I think it was too early in the show to bring in BC and the comics they are extremely wrong for each other. Which is where I like to think this version of Arrow is going to get away from Black Canary. She’s cut his throat a couple times on the island and she’s pretty much the reason Shado got killed. They would of never been on the island after them if she didn’t set up Ollie. BC was never good for him (in comics) and he never became better out of it.
What’s to say she’s not setting Ollie up again with Deathstroke?
What’s to say Nessa wasn’t just an act to line up the dots?
Laurel and Sara— I think both are just a piece of arse with a slight bonus. He cares for them both but it’s not love. He was ready to move into an apartment with laurel while doing her sister. His connection with Sara is built on guilt because she is “Dangerous” because of the shipwreck/island.
I don’t recall him killing Doll Maker for Laurel (like he did with the count). His choices to help people not on the list was because of the Jewel Thief and he was watching Felicity’s reaction to the news. He’s willing to be better for her–where Sara is willing to kill because she can. The Lance sisters are both willing to throw people under the bus to serve whatever purpose they want. Like Laurel with Tommy.. Come on she’s away from him for one week and just decides to pop in bed when she was barely speaking to Ollie a week prior. Again–just cause he’s been on a really messed up island (she knows nothing about)doesn’t mean Laurel has to jump bed partners. She just made Tommy’s fears true and because of that crap she’s a pill popper now.
Is Felicity the best catch? I honestly don’t know at this moment. I think they need to build it up and ride it out. Every relationship so far is based on lies and hearsay between the sisters (Sara is telling Ollie that Laurel is a liar and based on that statement redirects himself for the moment on the Blood Case).. When he’s got Sara in a boat load of lies to get on a vacation trip that lasted 5 years in a training course to be a murderer. I don’t think Ollie needs to do every chick they flop on the show. They need to build some solid relationship with him if they want to gear that way. Doing two sisters in college, bouncing between the two in a foothill full of lies and “Supposedly” killing/changing one into a killing machine isn’t a good enough reason. If that’s the case then put him back with Helena.
I also think if they are gonna have him doing Isabel who is on the list—eventually it needs to be addressed cause that storyline just got left hanging.
They need to build up the core group that they just started.. Diggle/Felicity/Roy–slap in some villains that bring in the storyline and strength of the group. You can have the little Flirty-flirt moments but the show is good enough to BUILD up the relationships instead of being forced. Like with Canary just happens to pop in right in the middle of his Barry/felicity frustration. He’s not gonna bed Felicity like the Lance Sisters because their relationship isn’t based on a tag team bedding between sisters.
I just don’t see where you see happiness in that mix.

I think a lot of people misunderstood Saras decisions on the island all of them actually helped Ollie and not herself if you can prove me wrong go ahead.Sara especially from after the gambit on has always put others first to the point she was willing to kill herself to save her family. To me she is easily the strongest female on the show with Shado r.i.p
Harley-Q. ( :D )
February 25, 2014 @ 3:18 pm
Once again Wrong because it’s Sara that is the most Weakest other the Laurel – I mean I would choose Laurel now over Sara any-day for simple reasons been Sara is nothing ( WOW ) she’s the Black Canary ( WOW ) she survived the island just like Oliver but all of this goes back to before the Gambit set sail.
The Lance’s mother is the most to blame in the family for 1 letting Sara go with Oliver when from what I have watched and seen and understood Oliver was with Laurel. ( SO LAUREL&SARA WITH OLIVER IS BAD THINGS ) nothing nice for them.
You need to learn how to follow and understand a TV SHOW story-line .because you for sure don’t know how to follow this show correctly. :)
Laurel&Sara + Oliver = Nothing – No Chemistry, No Banter, No Energy.
Now Olicity = Plenty of Energy, Plenty of Banter, & Sparks+emotion Everything that is mean’t to be is ( !!!OLICITY!!! ) :D

They don’t at all love each other.
The creators have played all of you people that like Arrow and Canary why simple now I’ve never looked at comics but I look things up online so Arrow and Canary are together in comics but it wasn’t all good if that’s right then OK. ( Which I believe it is right so Yeah. ).
So what have the creators done in the show put them together early so they can make them separate faster down the line of the upcoming episodes.

Simple you for sure seem to be forgetting all the sister stuff between Laurel & Sara I mean you for sure don’t understand a thing.
The mother let Sara go with Oliver on the Gambit so in theory in a story the mother has really back-stabbed her own Daughter that been Laurel and yet you like many others are like that doesn’t matter anymore Oliver & Sara are mean’t to be look at them – I am and there is O NOTHING there except heavy baggage old stuff.
Now Felicity is way way 1.x.billion better looking then Sara Smarter Tougher more Banter with Oliver more Interactions with Oliver. Yummy that’s better then Oliver and Sara any-day. :)

I can understand why Oliver feels like having a romantic relationship with Sara would be easier in the sense that he is not the solely responsible for her safety, that she can take care of herself. However, this is going to hurt Felicity and I hope this spurs her for some training so she is not the damsel in distress. Oliver and Felicity have such a fantastic relationship built on trust, honesty and mutual caring. I would love to see Felicity grow in her combat skills so that Oliver has no more excuses to avoid his feelings for her.
LordRyus
February 20, 2014 @ 1:05 am
Agreed that Felicity should get training, hopefuly earn a costume of her own one day. She shouldnt be trapped as a damsel just so Oliver can save her time and time again for cute moments between the two. That said I don’t want it done just so Felicity can sleep with Oliver just because fans want it to happen, as I think you’re suggesting. Felicity isn’t a prize, nor is Oliver.
I get that this will hurt Felicity but she cares more about her friendship with Oliver and Diggle to quit and let’s admit that Sara is a huge step up in Felicity’s eyes than Isabel R. Plus Felicity knows Oliver has history with Sara, and if it was Laurel Felicity would know she doesn’t stand a chance against her in Oliver’s eyes. If Oliver and Felicity will happen it must happen naturally, that means Oliver will have to retest the waters with Laurel and Sara and choose to move on. Yes, this means Oliver could hook up with Sara/Laurel instead or it could just make Olicity stronger since both now know his past relationships are now over.
Brandy Secrist
February 20, 2014 @ 2:30 am
I think that Felicity should get the training from the Canary herself. I also think there should be a plot twist in Felicity’s personal life, like with her family. Something that she is distracted about and doesn’t want to talk about. Something that she tries to take care of herself and because Oliver being the good friend that he is does a little digging and finds out what she is hiding. Or something is wrong medically, ya know? Now as for the relationship between Oliver and Felicity, I agree with the comment above that he has to see if he has a Sara/Laurel thing going on and what to do about that and if he does have feelings for either one of them. I don’t think that putting Felicity in peril all the time so they can have “moments” is enough. I think the cop out of “caring for someone” is just that. I think he said that because he doesn’t want to know what he feels for Felicity. It could also be that she is too close to him for him to lose in any case. I would love to see the two together but there are definite draw backs for it to happen.
Harley-Q. ( :D )
February 20, 2014 @ 2:21 pm
First no way in hell Felicity should not at all be Trained by Vomit Vomit Sara/BC. Ir should be Diggle or Oliver and that’s that. :)
Now with the rest you mentioned I agree. :D
Brandy Secrist
February 20, 2014 @ 4:10 pm
I honestly think the canary should train Felicity. One reason is because Oliver and Dig will have to watch. Watch being the key. Second because Oliver and Dig don’t really know what Sara is capable of. Yes, she can kill and she has moves but we have only seen a little bit of that. But the point is so Oliver can watch both of them and not only that but address how he feels about part of it. Does he really like the fact that he has to wrestle with the fact of always saving Felicity or does he need her to be just a woman?
Carlybabes
February 22, 2014 @ 2:33 am
No, I think that they should continue with Diggle training Felicity if for no other reason than to respect their relationship and history. Dig was the ONLY one that wanted to empower Felicity from the start so that she could protect herself better rather than treat her as someone that needed “protecting”. Any man willing to empower a woman has my support.
AnnB
February 20, 2014 @ 6:48 am
I agree – I think Felicity is an amazing member of the team, and I think that be getting more training, she will remove herself from the damsel in distress category she has found herself in before. I don’t want her training to just be a step to hook with Oliver. I meant that by her becoming more able to take care of herself in a dangerous situation that Oliver would be able to address his feelings for her honestly, without the issue of keeping her safe by not allowing a romantic relationship between them. Truthfully, I don’t think Oliver and Felicity are ready for a romantic relationship yet. They are on their way, and I’m loving this natural progression for them.
As for Sara and Oliver, I think they need to see if they can still have a relationship. He and Sara share an intense past and they need to see if they still have something worth pursuing. I am hoping that their relationship doesn’t last long as I like them much better as friends. There is just too much pain between Oliver and Sara/Laurel for a good relationship, I think.
Carlybabes
February 22, 2014 @ 2:41 am
I really don’t want Felicity to “suit up”. I love her just the way she is. She doesn’t need to be anything other than the “normal” awesome person that she is. The fact that she’s not jaded or as damaged as the rest is unique to her character. But I certainly wouldn’t mind having her in scenes with Slade Wilson to test her faith in Oliver. And her perception of if he really is a “good man”. I really want her to sympathize with Slade and attempt to save his humanity. Because I love both Slade and Felicity. I think scenes of those two together would be great. I want Slade to remain on the show and be torn between the friend he once perceived Oliver to be and the man that took everything from him. There are two sides to every story and I really want Felicity to see what Oliver & Sara’s choices did to inspire such hatred and vengeance.
LordRyus
February 22, 2014 @ 4:11 am
Sladicity much? :p ;)
J/k
Id like to note though Felicity can always hear what’s going on, when Slade meets Oliver/Sara she will hear all his words to the two of them… so she doesn’t have to meet him. Her being shown in the vengence speech could have just been a red herring, he could actually and more likely be planning on corrupting Laurel. You know, the women Slade saw Oliver staring at her photo day and night on the island and Sara’s sister… she’d be the logical target.
Anyways, I agree that keeping Felicity normal makes her unique… it also sets her up to always be the damsel in distress when things get gritty. Question is what do you think is better for the long term of the show her being normal, unique, and a damsel or her being now trained to some degree and at least bing skilling in one weapon (ignore getting a mask for the moment). She needs training or by season 4 her getting in danger and needing saving will be a bad joke (and the producers said they have a road map for at least 5 years). Plus did you not catch the hint about her father, Arrow mostly only uses character names from DC verse so far, if trend continues her father will be revealed as a DC character be it hero or villain.
Carlybabes
February 22, 2014 @ 4:38 am
Sladicity…Deathsmoak, I don’t care, I need some scenes with them. And Slade has been monitoring Oliver for a while now, I have a feeling he knows exactly who Felicity is. There was a reason they panned to Felicity on that corrupt line. I have no doubt that he’ll have plans for making Sara suffer as well. Laurel, eh. She’s not a huge role in his plan, why else order Blood to “take care” of her so early on in his plot? She was viewed as an inconvenience to his plans. Why would Slade attempt to corrupt Laurel? She’s managed to corrupt herself just fine. lol. No, I can’t fathom the show runners missing an opportunity with Slade/Felicity scenes.I could be wrong. But a girl can hope. I just hope that the speculation that he’s her father is WAY off. Otherwise I’m a sick sick woman. ;-)
And I’m all for Dig continuing to train Felicity. I want her to be empowered. I just don’t want her to become an Oracle, bond by a wheelchair just to soothe comic canon fans. Nope, I’ll take her just as she is until they can write something acceptable for a Felicity Fan First like myself. And I’m super excited to see her crossover for a few episodes with the new Flash show. Hell, if they write for her better over there, I’m more than happy to follow her. I’m all about Felicity.

Thats what the writers will do and if they do it is weak and predictable
LordRyus

Most of Arrow has done has been predictible, it just delievers faster than one would expect and does it well. Predictible isn’t always weak, execution matter too.
Yesterdays episode proves Felicity will grow beyond her role and it wasn’t weak (though arguably predictible, well I saw it coming anyways)
