‘How I Met Your Mother’ season 9: Alyson Hannigan lands first post-show project
What does the future hold for Alyson Hannigan beyond “How I Met Your Mother“? We now have an answer for that: A new pilot that will be fighting for contention over at CBS, and one that has a pretty darn good chance at being picked up. What is the primary reason for that? It’s simple: This project has both Ben Affleck and Matt Damon sign on as executive producers.
This series is entitled “More Time With Family,” and it stars Tom Papa as a man who wants to spend some more time with his family (hence the obvious name), and he therefore decides to make a major change in his career. As for how Hannigan is going to play, think along the lines of his wife. Her character is very demanding, authoritative, and has an attitude that is still somehow energetic. She is going to also be a mother, so that means that she will at least have one thing in common with the Lily character.
We were somewhat-surprised at first to hear about Hannigan’s potential casting here, mostly because we were not quire sure that any of the stars would be that interested in doing another full-time series immediately. Jason Segel is going to pursue films once again, Neil Patrick Harris is off to Broadway for a time, and we imagine that Josh Radnor could take some time to follow up his most recent movie “Liberal Arts.” The only longtime series regular we see maybe getting a full-time TV gig next year is none other than Cobie Smulders, who could be offered something, even if it is just a recurring role, on Marvel’s “Agents of SHIELD” thanks to her previous work there.
This news does follow up an announcement that Cristin Milioti, otherwise known as the Mother, is going to play a part in an upcoming NBC pilot. Meanwhile, Greta Gerwig is slated to star in “How I Met Your Dad,” the potential spin-off-of-sorts to the original show, which will premiere on CBS in the fall.
