‘Psych’ season 8 will indeed be the last; start crying into pineapples accordingly
This news that we have for you today is of the rather sad variety, mostly because it involves a show that we really hoped would go on forever. “Psych” is in fact going to come to a close after eight seasons, which more or less ties it with “Monk” for the longest-running series on USA.
What remains relatively unclear (at least to us) is whether or not the show actually filmed anything that is a satisfying series finale or not. Did the writers know that they had the end date stamped on their head when coming up with the finale? The one thing that we really wanted to see is the sort of hjinks that would come with a possible Shawn / Juliet wedding, or Lassiter finding out the truth about Shawn’s “abilities” after so many years of frustration or humiliation. Even though there were eight seasons in the can, we would have still loved to see another one to try to tie together some loose ends … especially since you knew that Maggie Lawson was not going to be a significant part of the final season.
Then again, there were some reasons to believe that the show was just about at an end. Timothy Omundson just signed on to do a new pilot, and Lawson may look to try another series after “Back in the Game” failed. It gets expensive to license and keep shows after them being on the air a long time.
What we can at least tell you now is this: There will be a live aftershow that airs on March 26 (the date of the series finale) at 10:00 p.m. Eastern time, and it is there that you can see creator Steve Franks discuss the series. Also, James Roday and Dule Hill released the video below, which could potentially get you all a-flutter and choked up. (If there is no complete ending to the show, though, we’re still dreaming of a Kickstarter for a movie.)
