‘American Idol XIII’ brings back General Larry Platt, ‘Pants on the Ground’ (video)
Do you remember the great “Pants on the Ground” movement that once rocked the “American Idol” world? Think back to season 9, when a man named General Larry Platt auditioned for the judges, and in turn ended up changing everything. By that, we really mean that he basically changed nothing at all.
But still, Platt remains a highlight of what was otherwise a pretty forgettable season for the show, at least save for maybe Lee DeWyze and Crystal Bowersox. So why not bring him back? Obviously, someone thought of that, and convinced Platt to come back on the show in order to perform his classic song one more time.
The irony of the video below is that for his first performance of the song back in 2010, none of the judges who are currently on the panel were present. Nonetheless, Harry Connick Jr., who was clearly very familiar with the phenomenon as a former viewer of the show, decided to get very involved in the movement. Perhaps a little too involved, depending on your point of view.
Consider this moment to be a random little slice of fun in the midst of an other stressful audition time in Atlanta. Also, a little fun fact: Platt was actually at one point a big part of American history, as he was involved in the Civil Rights Movement. So as much fun as we have laughing at his silly song, that is a pretty important thing to remember and appreciate on the week of Dr. Martin Luther King Day.
