‘The Vampire Diaries’ shocker: Whose death added to this shocking weekly toll?
This has been quite a surprising week for death on TV, and for good reason. We’re coming near the end of the November sweeps, and this is when shows like to give at least a mini-cliffhanger to leave you waiting for something that happens a little bit further down the road. “The Vampire Diaries” is going to be off the air next week due to Thanksgiving, but it will return the following Thursday with an episode that presents some more shockers in “The Cell.”
But we’re here to talk mostly about “Dead Man on Campus,” which did bring another dead man in Jesse, the possible love interest for Caroline who Elena was actually forced to do away with. Why was that? The simple answer here is that if she didn’t decide to send the man to his death, the odds were pretty good that we were going to unfortunately see him go after Damon. It was an either / or sort of situation for Elena, and she understandably had to side with the person who she best felt was going to actually be there for her. It was a selfish choice in the end … but she has been shown to have her selfish moments.
The death of Jesse adds to a pretty interesting (spoiler alert!) list of characters that have gone to the other side in the past week, which is a list that includes the likes of Clay on “Sons of Anarchy” and also Carter on “Person of Interest.” While Jesse’s death may not be as significant as the other two, it’s still significant in the story of Caroline in the long-term, who is still trying to move forward after what happened with Tyler. Her death follows up that of Silas and also Amara, who both ended up perishing at the end of last week.
Do you think that Elena did the right thing here, and are you surprised in general by just how many deaths there have been this week? Be sure to share some of your thoughts below, and click here if you’re curious in watching the preview video for next week.
