‘Hawaii Five-0’ season 4: Chi McBride upped to series regular
For “Hawaii Five-0” fans, the following has to feel like joyous news. While we were expecting for some time to hear the news that Chi McBride would be promoted to series regular, it is still rather nice to report that it is now official. CBS confirmed the promotion in a statement today, which follows up quotes from executive producer Peter Lenkov over the past few weeks where he expressed a hope that he would stick around forever as Captain Lou Grover.
The reason why we are especially so happy for McBride is because he is the sort of actor who has gotten an opportunity to be on some great shows over the years like “Human Target” and “Pushing Daisies,” but few of them have really stuck around a network long enough for him to be really noticed. Hopefully, this will be that big opportunity for him.
In the statement, Lenkov had the following to say when talking about what McBride has brought to the show already:
“After his first guest spot, we knew we had something special here with Chi playing Captain Lou Grover. He just fit seamlessly into the fabric of Hawaii Five-0 and viewers are enjoying the spirited, if sometimes antagonistic, interaction between him and McGarrett (Alex O’Loughlin). We are so thrilled to welcome Chi into our Ohana.”
Meanwhile, McBride also gave a rather touching statement about how her personally is fulfilling a lifelong dream by being on a network that he watched regularly as a child:
“Well, I know this sounds corny but the only thing I ever wanted in my career was to be on CBS, the home of my idol Jackie Gleason. I finally made it to the Tiffany network on Golden Boy, shooting scenes on the same stage where The Honeymooners was filmed. CBS graciously invited me to be a member of the cast ofHawaii Five-0, and it’s been wonderful. The cast, crew and production have been so welcoming to me, and so my love affair with CBS continues.”
