‘Scandal’ season 3: The end is in sight… at least for creator Shonda Rhimes
Rhimes first made her comments in an interview with “Morning Edition,” where she also offered up the following explanation as to why this decision was made:
“I knew the end of Grey’s Anatomy, and then we kept going, so that I finally just had to write that and move past it. Who knows, at this point, how long that show’s going to go? It’s going to go as long as I feel interested in what happens to those characters … But I feel like there is a finite amount of Scandal to be told. So I know what the end of Scandal will be, and I feel really good about that. And I can see where the end point is. And I don’t think I’m going to change that. … I know how long I think it will be. But we’ll see.”
Personally, we could see the show lasting for around six quality seasons, and then taking off to TV pasture. This would be just enough time for the original contracts on the series’ stars to run out, and long enough for there to be a story that feels complete. There has not been a show to leave at that point, even “Breaking Bad,” where we have sat there after the fact and said that we wished it would have gone on a little longer than it did.
