‘NCIS’ season 11 spoilers: More on Tony’s post-Ziva struggles; plus, Ben Vareen to guest

More news -We’ll start this “NCIS” update with what serves as the latest update for all of you who are still hoping that Ziva remains on the forefront of Tony’s mind for a little while:  The show is still going to continue to take on the issue.

Speaking about it to Entertainment Weekly, showrunner Gary Glasberg explains that it is his priority at the moment to try and ensure that Tony takes all of the time that he needs to fully transition into the next phase of his life, and it also feels like that is something that the writers are enjoying writing to just as much as Michael Weatherly is enjoying doing the scenes:

“We’re letting the character continue on this natural path of dealing with the ups and downs of Ziva’s absence. Those ups and downs will continue. Slowly but surely — just as in the real world — he’s getting refocused and getting his life together. He’s figuring things out.”

We know that the idea of a show doing something like this realistically may sound pretty idiotic in theory, given that you would almost expect all shows to do it, it does not quite happen that way. As a matter of fact, we more often than not see shows tend to whistle into the wind and pretend that an actor was never around after their departure on the show, thinking for whatever reason that this is somehow easier. The twist? It never really is, and it just annoys the heck out of fans instead.

On a slightly different note, the site reports that Ben Vareen, who is also returning to “How I Met Your Mother” soon as the father of Barney’s half-brother James, is going to be appearing on a December “NCIS” episode as a relative of the deceased Jackie Vance. This is going to be a Leon Vance-centered episode much in the same way that Tuesday night’s was very much about Gibbs.
