NBC’s ‘Community’ season 5 spoilers: ‘Arrested Development’ boss snags fun guest role
Remember when Dan Harmon made a brief cameo on this past season of “Arrested Development”? Apparently, the bond between the “Community” creator and Mitch Hurwitz is such that the two want to appear on each other’s shows.
Sources confirm that Hurwitz, who is responsible for bringing us the Bluth family for multiple seasons of the comedy classic now on Netflix, is going to guest star on an upcoming season 5 episode of “Community” as a guy named Preston Koogler, described as the ultimate Grenndale Community College life of the party. If this leads in any way to a feud between Preston and the ultimate one-man party in Magnitude, we could only be so lucky. (Oh, and pop pop.)
“Community” now has a premiere date in Thursday, January 2, which to us means that you have a perfect reason to celebrate the new year. The episodes are going to feature the return of Harmon to the showrunner chair after being absent through season 4, which is a part of a saga that is far too long and twisted to explain here. (If you have made it this far into the review, then odds are that you already know what we’re talking about.)
Some of the other guest stars currently booked to appear include John Oliver (back following a good two seasons away), Brie Larson, Paget Brewster of “Criminal Minds,” Nathan Fillion of “Firefly” / “Castle,” “Switched at Birth” star Katie Leclerc, and Jonathan Banks of “Breaking Bad,” which is starting to make us think that the show really loves just reviving dead characters from Vince Gilligan’s AMC classic. This is going to hopefully be a fun season, as Harmon tries to put his creative stamp on the show once again. Having another brilliant showrunner around, even as an actor rather than a star, certainly cannot hurt.
What do you think about Hurwitz and Harmon trading off guest appearances, and do you think that “Community” has somehow assembled its best cast to date? Be sure to share some of your thoughts below!
