‘The Blacklist’ episode 4 preview: Is ‘The Stewmaker’ the most frightening villain yet?

The Blacklist logo any seasonTonight, we had some of our harshest criticism for “The Blacklist’ so far this season, as the mystery-of-the-week felt generic and boring in some ways. By the time it was over, we were clamoring to have more of the real story revolving around Reddington and Elizabeth Keen.

But if the first look at next week’s episode is any any indication at all, we may not be feeling this way at all about what is coming around the bend. By far, The Stewmaker is the most frightening villain that Liz has encountered since becoming an agent; he almost seems like a character better suited for an arc than an episode, given not only the number of people that he has killed, but the way in which he does so. He seems almost like a cross between the Trinity Killer and Walter White based on what we’re seeing. Tubs … and science … and masks!

Take a look at the synopsis below if you want to see some more details:

“While continuing her investigation into the truth about Tom (Ryan Eggold), Liz (Megan Boone) testifies against drug lord, Hector Lorca (guest star Clifton Collins Jr.). Later another witness is abducted when he is forced to testify against the dangerous drug trafficker. Red’s (James Spader) interest is peaked and he informs the team that the witness may have been taken by ‘The Stewmaker’ a man responsible for hundreds of missing and presumed dead people. Meanwhile, in an unlikely twist of events, Red and Ressler (Diego Klattehoff) must work together for the first time.”

The attached promo this time really doesn’t provide any information beyond what we have already told you, but don’t you have to admit that the music is pretty terrifying? We’re probably the most excited about “The Blacklist’s” next episode that we’ve been since the pilot, and after being let down tonight, this is probably the sort of terror that we needed to become a fan again.
