ABC’s ‘Castle’ season 6: Nathan Fillion on progression between Castle, Beckett
When you look at where “Castle” stands now entering its sixth season, there is one thing that really stands out: This is not a show that has really felt the need to rush to get to any point. Rather than just trying to satisfy fans immediately by getting Richard Castle and Kate Beckett together by season 3 and married the next year, they took their time and let the relationship marinate for a while. It got stronger and stronger to the point where they were actually in a place where they could be together, and it was not forced. Castle was more than a goofball writer, and Beckett more than just a hard-nosed cop still obsessed with resolving the murder of her mother.
This, from an actor’s point of view, is something that Nathan Fillion seems to both understand and appreciate. Speaking from the set to TVLine on the subject of this relationship, he would of course not spill the beans as to if Beckett said yes to the infamous proposal; however, he did detail why he has enjoyed the slow and steady progress that the show has made:
“It’s a bit of a dance, because when you’ve got a successful television program that’s doing well, you don’t want to mess with it too much, you don’t want any jarring changes, I don’t think. And they’ve been very artful with it.”
So by the time that an engagement does happen, whether it is this year or at some point down the road, it’s going to feel pretty natural. We expect the same sort of thing to take pace when it comes to a potential wedding; don’t expect the two to suddenly opt to run down the aisle if she accepts the proposal.
