‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 5 spoilers: Nina Dobrev on Elena, Damon, Stefan, and more
Nina Dobrev has definitely been a pretty busy woman this fall. She has not only been filming plenty of scenes as Elena on “The Vampire Diaries,” but she has Katherine to worry about as well. To make matters even more interesting, the two are in very different positions in their lives, and therefore it is a full gamut of emotions to play.
But overall, one very simple difference between the two is that at least in the early going this year, we’re going to be seeing a rather joyful side of the Elena character for a change after so many years of dealing with darkness. Speaking on this subject in a chat with TV Guide, Nina had the following to say on what we will see from this perspective:
“I’ve had so much fun playing Elena this season because she is lighter and happier. She’s unaware of a pretty tragic thing that has happened, so she’s not affected … and it will go dark eventually, but right now she’s carefree and fun-loving and excited about her new boyfriend and college.”
In case you’re wondering, that “pretty tragic thing” Dobrev is referring to here is very likely the revelation that her best friend Bonnie is actually dead, and there is no word yet as to when Jeremy is going to break the news to everyone with Bonnie’s permission.
As for relationships, Dobrev teases that while Elena will always have a place in her heart for Stefan, she is going to try and make something last with Damon in spite of the bumps that are inevitably going to come with these two:
“One of the big obstacles [for them], especially for Damon, is to make sure he doesn’t f— it up because he has a tendency to do that whether he means to or not. He’s going to try to be on his best behavior and Elena is going to embrace him, but she knows who he is and sometimes that comes to the surface and reminds her. But they’ll try to figure it out because love prevails and they want their love to conquer all. They have gone through so much to get to where they are now. If they didn’t keep fighting for it, it would be a shame.”
