‘Downton Abbey’ season 4 teaser: Check out the latest from PBS
After watching the “Downton Abbey” season 4 trailer that was first released by ITV last weekend, there is probably going to be a reaction that you get after watching the one just unveiled by PBS: Wait, what? This is what you give me to promote the new season?
To be fair, Americans have a much longer time to wait than those excited for September 22 in Britain, and there is little need to give everything away right now. Then again, it’s also kind of stupid to insinuate that those who are internet savvy will not go on YouTube and try to check out the other clip that is out there.
There is no real footage in this teaser at all. Instead, what we are looking at here is merely a shot of the famous residence, along with the reminder that January 5 is going to be the day that the show comes back on the air here.
In case you want to re-open that Pandora’s box on why the show waits so long to come on PBS, there are a few simple reasons. One, the show has to be slightly re-edited in order to flow properly without commercials, and ITV probably doesn’t want their viewers trying to find a way that they can watch a broadcast simultaneously on PBS so that they don’t have to sit through ads. Also, we just think that it is a better fit for the network in January, where there is significantly less competition than there is in the fall with so many other shows on hiatus. “Downton Abbey” this year will not have to air against either “Once Upon a Time” or “Revenge” for most of its season, and really will only face competition from NFL football.
