‘Saturday Night Live’ alum Andy Samberg, Aziz Ansari sign up for James Franco Roast

Comedy Central -Somehow, Comedy Central has found a way to make their upcoming Roast of James Franco all the more entertaining, and it comes courtesy of two actor / comics who are not only extremely popular, but also extremely current: Aziz Ansari and Andy Samberg. The latter is making this his last major TV gig before “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” premieres this fall, while Ansari is simply taking a break from filming “Parks and Recreation” to stop by.

These two are joining a roster that not only includes Roastmaster Seth Rogen, but a motley crew of people such as Jeff Ross, Sarah Silverman, one of Samberg’s fellow “Saturday Night Live” alums in Bill Hader, comedians Natasha Leggero and Nick Kroll, and Jonah Hill. Basically, this is our favorite lineup of roasters ever, and this is even with the sad lack of Anthony Jeselnik on board. This show is actually going to be filmed this coming weekend, and will air over Labor Day Weekend on September 2. (These bookings were first announced by Entertainment Weekly.)

When it comes to Franco, he’s a bit more interesting of a target for a roast than many other people we have seen over the years, and with good reason. He’s not someone who is necessarily iconic for any one show, but he has done a number of things. Some are loved (“Freaks & Geeks”), some are loathed (“Your Highness”), and some will probably just have him ridiculed for jealousy (“Spider-Man,” given all of the money he made from it). He’s probably also going to get a number of hipster jokes, but can you really be that surprised by this? We can’t.

We’ll be watching this show like it is one of the most-important things ever, mostly because to us, there’s not much funnier than watching a guy get torn a new one for things that he deserves ridicule for, and then some things that he doesn’t.
