‘Hollywood Game Night’ season 2 official; NBC renews Jane Lynch-hosted summer show
While summer is not exactly a time in which you see series with big ratings, NBC is making a quick move when it comes to bringing back one of its consistent performers of the past few months: Game show “Hollywood Game Night.” While this was no “Under the Dome” when it comes to overall numbers, there were two things that the show did very well which was drawing big repeat numbers, and also consistently creating a great environment with host Jane Lynch and some of the celebrity guests who stop by.
In a statement (per Deadline) confirming this news, the network’s head of alternate programming in Paul Telegdy had the following to say:
“Not only is it a show we’re very proud of, it is easy watching and fun, and the repeats have been holding up quite well, retaining 85% of the premiere ratings, a quality we’re looking for … We think we’ve found something really special with Jane Lynch. She is someone who beyond fits the NBC family of talent on personal level and in terms of who she is and what she stands for; she is all kinds of awesome.”
To us, the biggest mistake that the network made with this show was airing something that could be family-oriented at 10:00 p.m. Eastern. This is probably why the repeats performed so closely to the originals; younger crowds are checking it out when it airs a few days after the original, and then the more adult audiences are catching it on Thursday night. As a piece of fun summer entertainment, this is a great move for the network. Plus, who knows? Maybe more people will actually watch now that they realize that the show really isn’t going anywhere.
