‘New Girl’ season 3 spoilers: How will Winston handle Coach’s arrival?
As excited as we all are for the arrival of Coach back on “New Girl,” there is a little bit of a “this is awkward…” feeling that probably comes from Lamorne Morris’ character of Winston. He’s a guy that would never be around were it not for Coach leaving the show, so with him coming back for a little bit, this is sure to create some waves … right? Right!
Specifically, what we are going to see is almost a hilarious riff on the situation; while in reality Morris is more than happy and thrilled to see Wayans on the show, executive producer Liz Meriwether tells TV Guide that the show is going to take advantage of the perceived anxiety that could come from the original actor coming back for a while when Winston has firmly established himself in the loft:
“We’re playing with [Winston] being really insecure about it and that he’s really intimidated by Coach and having to learn to standup to Coach.”
Meriwether also says that Coach returns during a series of arguments between the roommates, and he could quickly find himself as the middleman with Schmidt and Nick, forced to choose which one he wants to stand with. If he ends up picking Winston out of all of this, that would probably be the most hilarious scenario to watch play out.
While it has not been confirmed just how long Wayans will be around for, it is going to be several episodes into the new season before he arrives back on the show. This gives some more time for Nick and Jess to cultivate whatever sort of relationship it is that they have, before there is a wrench thrown into the system that could disrupt the way these people live.
But have Schmidt and Nick kept up with Coach in the time he was away? This is one of our own pressing questions that we’ll be excited to have an answer to when the show comes back on the air starting Tuesday, September 17.
