‘The Bachelor’: Chris Harrison on Juan Pablo Galavis being first minority Bachelor

Juan Pablo -There is a great deal of talk surrounding Juan Pablo Galavis as the next “Bachelor,” and a good deal of it has to do with something more than just the person that he is; it’s also a good bit about what he represents. As the first minority “Bachelor” ever, he represents a different part of America than what viewers are used to seeing, and hopefully, he also brings a touch of a different culture to the role. When you remember that three out of the last four men to star on the show have been white, muscular guys from Texas, this show does need something to shake things up.

So what does Chris Harrison have to say about Juan Pablo? In his mind, it is really the best of both worlds given that he is not just a minority, but he is also the person that he and the other producers wanted. Just read his comments per TV Guide for more on that:

“I’m glad he’s Latino, but [we didn’t] aim to pick a Latino bachelor or an African-American bachelor. We just wanted to pick the best one, and we picked the best one. I’m glad it happened naturally because we picked the best person for the job and he also happens to be a minority.”

As for what will be the makeup of the women fighting for his heart this coming season, we imagine that we’re going to see a nice mixture of different backgrounds, similar to what Sean Lowe had. Given that he ultimately chose someone in Catherine Giudici who is a minority, and that Ali Fedotowsky chose Roberto Martinez, it shows that there is some joy to be found in diversity during the casting process. Then again, you need to have a Bachelor that is open to dating people from all different backgrounds, but that seems to be what you would want in a show like this anyway.

Do you think that Juan Pablo is everything that producers wanted and then some? To hear what some others related to the world of the show are saying about the choice, just be sure to click here.
