‘Doctor Who’: Who is Peter Capaldi? A look at the 12th Doctor’s major roles
We are still fresh off of the big announcement today that Peter Capaldi has been named the 12th Doctor on “Doctor Who,” and in addition to sharing some thoughts straight from BBC’s recent special confirming the news, we also wanted to bring to you an article hoping to answer at least one of the key questions out there that many have: Just who is this man?
The first thing that we have to say is that even if there were no rumors about Capaldi being the new man in the role, we should have still seen this coming. Not only has Peter actually appeared on the series back in 2008, but he was a veteran star of “Torchwood,” and ironically played the part of “W.H.O. Doctor” in the summer movie “World War Z.” In addition to submitting a letter to the Radio Times as a child talking about how much he loved the show, Capaldi has literally lived and breathed the Time Lord for quite a long time now.
Calapdi has appeared in a number of other TV series and films over the years, but most of them, save for maybe “Skins,” will be unknown to many outside of Britain and parts of Europe. He does have a role coming up in “Maleficent,” which is the fairy-tale adaptation starring Angelina Jolie.
Already, Steven Moffat is catching serious heat for the choice, with some saying that he took a safe route with someone already familiar to the show. Meanwhile, others have expressed that they would have rather seen a woman or a minority in the part. We were always just about finding the best actor, and if Peter brings something new to the part, we cannot object.
What do you think about Capaldi’s selection, and are you disappointed that it was not a riskier choice? You can read some more about the other rumors out there over at the link here.
