‘Doctor Who’ season 8 spoilers: Peter Capaldi officially named 12th Doctor on live show
There is so much that we can say about “Doctor Who”: It’s one of the most successful sci-fi series of all time, and it has an international fanbase that has exploded over the past few years.
If there is one thing that we really take from Matt Smith’s legacy as the 11th Doctor, it is this: He made the world fall in love with the character. We knew that there were Americans who loved David Tennant as The Doctor,, but the past few years have caused the show to balloon outward and find fans that were not previously out there.
After a good 25 minutes of waiting to find out who the replacement for Smith was going to be, the predictable result was in: Peter Capaldi, a lifelong fan of the show, ended up securing the role. Capaldi had been rumored over the past few days, and for Steven Moffat, the primary goal was to find someone who was completely different from Matt. Moffat also added that they had previously considered Capaldi after Tennant’s departure, but it was not a difficult choice to settle on him this time around for the role.
Calapdi was generous within his first few moments publicly as the character, saying that he had to keep the secret from his own daughter, not just fans of the show. Also, he claimed that he initially missed the call to find out that he had won the part, saying that he was on set in Prague and that his phone was therefore set to silent.
