‘The Carrie Diaries’ season 2 spoilers: Will another character join Samantha Jones?

Let’s face it: Once you have one character from the “Sex and the City” franchise aboard “The Carrie Diaries,” it is pretty easy to sit here and say that you would like to see more of them joining the world of the show. But are we really going to be seeing that happen anytime soon? Not so fast.

While the news of Lindsey Gort’s casting as a young Samantha Jones definitely has a few people out there intrigued, CW exec Mark Pedowitz told TVLine at the network’s TCA event this week that it would be a little while before the thought of other characters creeping in, such as Charlotte, Stanford, or Miranda, really started to play a part in what the writers want to do:

“This is the year that Carrie and Samantha first bond, and we’ll see what happens after that. But this is a year about Samantha.”

Granted, the writers are also probably very much aware of the idea that if Carrie ends up meeting all of her friends right away, then the show could basically just turn into a less-seedy version of the HBO hit; and when you are on a network that is much more family-friendly, it is probably not a good idea to start treading those waters.

Gort will make her first appearance very early on this coming season, which will launch in late October. Why the late start? We’ve said this before, but one of the primary reasons for it is simply that viewers can use Friday nights to go out and party when the weather is nicer, and then tune in when things start to cool down a little bit.
