ABC’s ‘Castle’ season 6 spoilers: Learning the truth about Lanie and Esposito

So what in the world is really going on with Lanie and Esposito on “Castle”? Are they together, not together, floating through a sea of “will they or won’t they?” that once included Castle and Beckett? They clearly are the show’s most-frustrating pair, mostly because for season 5, we almost saw more total screen time in the opening credits than we did of them together.

Luckily, there will be a changing of the guard in the new season when it comes to this. Tamala Jones and Jon Huertas will actually have some more time together … but are they going to be happy? In turns out that there may have been a reason why they were not shown together very much. For more on that, you really don’t have to look any further than showrunner Andrew Marlowe’s comments to TV Guide on the subject:

“There was a scene cut from their break-up because of some time issues that I think leaves a little lack of clarity in terms of what happened and where they are … I think we owe it to the fans to give them an explanation of what’s going on in their relationship.”

Well like it or not, you’re going to get that explanation when it comes to the couple’s status. Even if they are struggling for now, you have to believe that there’s still hope. For one, people are invested in the story; also, people will probably hate another love interest if they are brought into the fold. The point here that Marlowe is making is that romance rarely comes easy, and it certainly doesn’t when you have two people who have as much going on as Lanie and Esposito do, even if you work at the same place.
