‘American Dad’ moving to TBS after season 10

American Dad“American Dad” is set to make a very big change, though it may be a while before you see it. Although the Seth MacFarlane series is not being canceled, it is going the way of “Futurama” in a sense, as we will see it go from broadcast TV to cable. (Luckily, we’re not seeing any sort of delay or temporary cancellation in the process.)

In a statement Tuesday, it was announced that the show will be shifting over from Fox to TBS near the end of 2014, following the conclusion of the show’s tenth season. First of all, “American Dad” has been on the air for ten years? This little slice of information is stunning in itself, and it really shows just how quickly time can fly. Here is what Michael Wright, the head of TBS, TNT, and also Turner Classic Movies, had to say about the acquisition:

“American Dad is a great fit for TBS, a favorite of comedy fans who like smart, irreverent humor with ample doses of biting wit and skewering satire. We look forward to welcoming Seth MacFarlane and the rest of his team as they bring this iconic show to TBS.”

Considering that “Family Guy” has long been a great performer for the network in the 18-49 demo, this move comes as no real surprise at all. Repeats of these will air over on Adult Swim, which is also a partner of the same Turner parent company. (In other words, great cross-promotion, though we do prefer it when Adult Swim goes more of the indie route.)
