‘Downton Abbey’ season 4 spoilers: Is ‘Doctor Who’ alum romancing Allen Leech’s Tom?

Ever since production started on “Downton Abbey” season 4, there were questions floating around constantly when it came to some of the show’s lead characters and romance. Michelle Dockery’s Mary and Allen Leech’s Tom Branson were widow and widower, and while there was not any concern at all that their two characters were going to hook up together, there were many fans curiously wondering as to what is going to happen next when it comes to their respective romantic lives.

At some point, you probably heard the news that Mary would have a pair of love interests chasing after her this coming season. But what about Tom? According to the Mirror, Daisy Lewis (whose credits including an episode of “After You’re Gone” and a “Doctor Who” installment from 2007) has been cast as a caretaker that the Tom character eventually falls for. Just check out what a source had to say on the subject:

“Daisy will become one of Downton’s most prominent characters. She wowed producers in her audition and they are delighted to have secured such a brilliant young actress. Her romance with Tom will be one of the main storylines of the series. He will begin to develop feelings for her and they start a secret affair.”

What is at least somewhat interesting about this role is that it becomes somewhat of a role reversal for Branson, who was once a member of the lower class who rose to the top thanks to a relationship. Could he end up helping another to do the same?
