‘Ray Donovan’ episode 3 preview: The latest mission is…
If there is one thing that we’re starting to feel about Showtime’s “Ray Donovan,” it is that there are some certain temptations here to give the show a sort of episodic format when it comes to having new clients stop in on a week-to-week basis. As for how we really feel about this right now, we’re not entirely sure. On one side of the coin, it is a great opportunity to see some great stories told if the writers are up to the task. (So far, this does luckily appear to be a pretty good group of people working on scripts.)
So what can we expect to see from this possible “standalone” story Sunday night? It seems to be very much geared around the notion of changing guardianship for a young singer described as the “black Justin Bieber,” and how Ray’s help is rather unsurprisingly called on in order to make that happen. Luckily, he seems to be at least marginally willing.
But is Ray really going to even have the time to lend a helping hand? That is what we are still somewhat unsure about, given that there are some other problems awaiting him, including the issue of his father, some other curmudgeon-like clients, and a family life that grows more and more complicated by the day. Translation? Dude already has a pretty jam-packed schedule on his plate as it is.
