Silo season 3 episode 5: Tim Robbins on Bernard’s future

As we do brace now for Silo season 3 episode 5 on Apple TV, it is abundantly clear we are bracing for something new and unexpected. After all, Bernard is alive!
Given that the series is based on the books by Hugh Howey, there are very few surprises out there for those aware of the source material. This is one. Bernard does not survive past events in the books but for the TV version, he effectively has a new lease on life. Moving forward, he really just has to figure out exactly what it is he wants to do with it.

Speaking to the Radio Times, Tim Robbins himself noted that there is an exciting challenge ahead for him after all that has happened:
“What season 3 offered me was a way to play a different Bernard who has been physically altered in such a significant way, but also morally and mentally and spiritually altered in a profound way.
“Everything he thought was the truth turned out to be a lie, and now he is on a mission to rectify his sins from the past and make things better for himself and for others – and to make amends to the culture that he has betrayed. What a beautiful challenge as an actor to be given that opportunity.”
Could this actually be a hopeful story with this in mind? It would be fun to see, especially since this is not always a particularly hopeful show. After all, so much of it has been rooted in despair and mystery, especially as the residents try to figure out why they are situated here in the first place — and if there is ever a chance to get out of this place alive.
