NCIS season 24 filming kicks off; premiere date hopes

For everyone out there eager to dive into NCIS season 24 over at CBS, we have great news — and a reminder that we are a little bit closer.

This past week, production for the latest chapter of the long-running crime drama got underway in the Los Angeles area, and we know already that this season will be different from what we’ve seen as of late. A significant addition is actually a re-addition, as Michael Weatherly is going to reprise his role of Tony DiNozzo for a significant arc. How and why he is back remains to be seen, but we know already that the writers are not looking to just forget that the Tony & Ziva spin-off ever existed.

So does the start of NCIS production signal that the series will be coming back sooner rather than later? We would love to sit here and say with confidence that this is a sure thing … but it is not. As a matter of fact, mid-July is the pretty typical start of production period for the show, and CBS then has the ability to hold onto it for however long they want. They could easily opt to leave us hanging until late September or early October — the latter may be more likely based on recent behavior.

In terms of creating stakes, we do think that the bar is going to be pretty sky-high moving forward here. How in the world do you top everything that we have seen already? Let’s just say that it is going to be difficult, especially since we just lost Vance and had a lot of really intense and personal storylines for the whole team.
