Silo season 3 episode 2 preview: A big question from the past

As we gear up to see Silo season 3 episode 2 on Apple TV in a matter of days, it makes sense that there would be questions across both timelines.
Now, we recognize that there is inevitably going to be a lot of chatter when it comes to everything that is happening in the present for Juliette, due in part to her memory loss as well as the reveal that someone is seemingly doing what they can in order to help her. That is certainly something that can be explored in due time.

For the sake of the past, though, there is a question that we never really anticipated. What is going on with the black, inky-like substance that was aboard the fighter planes with Charlotte and company? We do think that going into this story, the easy assumption to make was that we were gearing up for a storyline in which there was nuclear war. By virtue of that, the Silos all exist because there needed to be shelter from what was above. This was easily the most predictable outcome, but does this mean that it is the right one? Well, personally we want the show to be a bit more unpredictable than that.
Given that the premise of this story alone is based in science fiction, it only makes sense for the remainder of the series to go down that route. What if there is a secret technology that proves even more dangerous than nuclear war? Has that poisoned the atmosphere above ground? This is something that we hope there are some further answers to before the end of the third season, largely due to how it could shift and change almost everything entering the fourth and final season.
