We know that A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 2 is going to be coming to HBO and of course, that alone is tremendously exciting. However, at the same time is there more to be excited about here long-term?

Well, let’s just put it this way: A season 3 feels almost inevitable based on two different things. First and foremost, you have three stories about Dunk and Egg already published by George R.R. Martin. Meanwhile, the series is massively successful.

Beyond this? Well, here is a reminder that showrunner Ira Parker has discussed some future plans already with Martin, and has a sense of where the author wants to take the characters. This leads to what the executive producer had to say regarding the future in a chat with Decider:

“What I would love to do: George has five stories of sort of Egg the boy, which is, I think, a nice thing to do right now while Dexter is still young and his voice is, you know, squeaky … It will be cracking shortly and he’ll be growing up.”

“But we want to follow him for those five [stories]. Then at the end of that fifth one, he sort of becomes the prince again. Then, the next couple would take place in a different [setting]. Not just on the road, but in a place like Summerhall or a place like King’s Landing. That’s the middle section of if. Of course, the last [section] is Egg the king.”

Ultimately, there could even be more seasons than this. Remember that Parker has said previously that he would love to follow these characters through the bulk of their lives, and there is plenty of time and space to still do that.
