The Hunting Party canceled at NBC; will season 3 air elsewhere?

After two seasons over on NBC, it appears as though The Hunting Party is going to be hunting for a new home altogether.
According to a new report from Deadline, the Melissa Roxburgh led show has been officially canceled after the network chose to take extra time to look at the numbers. It did not perform well when it comes to live + same-day figures, but it did find more of an audience over at streaming — especially on Netflix, which premiered the first season earlier this year.

So is there a chance that Netflix ends up being the home for a season 3? Well, all we can say for the time being is that the show will be shopped around. Given that Peacock likely already had an opportunity to pick it up already, we do not think that is the top option at this point.
If Netflix does pick the show up…
Let’s just say that there would be a tinge of irony to it. After all, NBC canceled Roxburgh’s last show in Manifest, only for it to then land on Netflix to finish off its own run. Can lightning strike twice? The biggest concern we would have about The Hunting Party is that for the most part, the story relies heavily on procedural elements — that is not something that Netflix tends to rely on that much when it comes to their original shows. They could choose to break the mold; or, another possibility is that they try to make the show more serialized in general.
For now, let’s just hope that some streamers out there will at least consider giving the show another try. The season 2 finale definitely left the door open for something more down the road.
