Ted Lasso season 4: Jason Sudeikis on decision to return

When Ted Lasso season 3 originally wrapped up on Apple TV, there was a thought that it could very well be the end. The show had been planned as a three-season arc from the beginning and most of the storylines were wrapped up.
Yet, here we are now, a little more than two months away from the fourth season coming back. So what changed?

Well, from the moment that season 3 concluded, the general consensus was that the show could come back whenever Jason Sudeikis had a good idea to make it happen — and eventually, he figured that out. There is now a women’s team at AFC Richmond that requires his coaching and that means new challenges and, hopefully, new comedy. We also do like the idea of Ted returning to the UK, mostly because the end of season 3 felt almost bittersweet. It was great that he chose to go back to his son, but why couldn’t he find a way to have Henry spend time with him in the UK? To some extent, we tend to think this season could rectify that.
In an interview with Men’s Journal, Sudeikis did his part to explain why this was the right time to bring the show back:
Tons of ideas, stories, and characters just kept flooding our brains, so we had to do something with them! And it just felt like the right time to get back to doing something we really enjoy doing, and apparently, people really enjoy watching.
Whether or not viewers flock back in equal measure remains to be seen, but for Apple TV, we more than understand the reason for their confidence. Ted Lasso has proven itself to be one of the biggest shows in the history of their service, so banking on it superficially seems to be a pretty smart move.
