Ted Lasso season 4: Hannah Waddingham on Ted, Rebecca

We recognize fully that there are a multitude of different, interesting questions worth thinking about in regards to Ted Lasso season 4. When you think about it, one is rather inevitable: The idea of whether Ted and Rebecca could end up being romantic. There are a legion of fans out there enthused by the idea and while we have had our concerns over the years, there is no denying that the chemistry between them makes that possible.

With that being said, it is hard to fully gauge whether or not Jason Sudeikis and some of the other members of the creative team foresee the show going down that road. The only thing that we know for certain at this point is that there will be a time jump heading into season 4 and beyond that, Ted is back in the UK.

In a new interview with Variety, Hannah Waddingham noted that for her personally, a romantic pairing between the two is not something that is needed:

“I love that we buck against the norm … And they are undoubtedly soulmates, but that can mean a myriad of things.”

We know that there was some pushback against Rebecca’s relationship at the end of season 3, and it feels reductive to say it was only tied to people ‘shipping the character with Ted. We also tend to think it was due to that love interest having such a tiny amount of screen time prepared to everything else, especially when the writers even hade a fake-out with Ted and Rebecca close to the end of the season. They clearly were aware of some of the fan desires to even consider doing something like that in the first place.
