Love Island USA asks for kindness ahead of season 8 premiere

Even though the season 8 premiere of Love Island USA has yet to even arrive over at Peacock, the folks over at the series are speaking out preemptively against online hate.
In a post on Instagram this week, here is what the show had to say about fans reacting to what they see on the show:
“The Villa runs on good vibes, and so does this community … We love seeing your reactions, opinions, and debates, but everyone deserves to feel safe and respected.”

This statement comes after Love Island USA put out a similar statement during season 7 after toxicity and backlash among the fan base online. Meanwhile, another Peacock series in The Traitors released a similar statement earlier this year. This has become increasingly common, in particular as fan bases become more vocal and, at times, parasocial.
Are these statements effective?
That is honestly the hardest part of the equation to figure out here, mostly because the people who most need to listen are likely also the ones who probably have no interest in doing so. We do think that they at least matter from the vantage point of contestants, as you likely want to feel like your show is doing something to try and protect them over the course of the season. People will do things over the course of the season that some viewers do not like — that is inevitable. There are just far too many examples of it over the years.
One thing we do recognize is that because this particular series happens in real-time, a lot of islanders may not know the extent of any backlash until they come home after the experience.
