Virgin River season 8 spoilers: Who is Astrid?

While we may be waiting for some time to see the Virgin River season 8 premiere over on Netflix, we are happy to at least have casting news today!

So what is there to presently discuss? Well, according to a report from Deadline, SkyMed actress Natasha Calis is going to recur over the course of the next season, where she will be taking on the part of Astrid. Per the character description, she is a “brashly confident” surgical resident “who finds herself assigned to a rotation in Doc’s clinic after mysteriously being placed on probation … Her bedside manner may be lacking, but she’s willing to do almost anything to get out of Virgin River and back in the surgical wing.”

So could this person be a foil, or find some sort of larger motivation and reason to stick around? The wide array of possibilities here, at least for the time being, are what have us most intrigued about what she could be bringing to the table here. At the very least, it feels like there is a lot that could be done in general.

As for when season 8 will premiere…

Odds are, we are still going to be waiting for some time. As great as it would be to see the next chapter on the air soon, realistically we are going to be stuck waiting around until the winter or spring of next year. Even if these episodes are done filming far before then, the reality here is that there is no real reason for Netflix to rush anything along. The most important thing is that they continue to create the show so many people love, one where there is a lot of conflict but at the same time, also opportunities for romance and so many other things we have come to know and love over the years.
