Who is Leonard “Lenny” E. Hancock Jr.? At the end of tonight’s Marshals episode on CBS, you may have seen a title card tribute.

As many out there may know in general, these cards are one of the most important ways in which any show can honor someone who was a part of it at some point over the course of its run. They air across all subsequent airings and beyond just that, they inspire people to gather more information and learn about their life and legacy. We would say that in general, the greater Taylor Sheridan universe has long done a good job of paying tribute to people who are important to their productions. This dates back to the original Yellowstone, which of course aired for five seasons on the Paramount Network?

In getting back into Hancock, we are talking here about one of the unsung heroes who worked tirelessly to make the Luke Grimes series a success. According to a report from Deadline, he was the prop master behind the scenes for the series, someone who passed in December in the Lake Havasu neighborhood of Arizona due to an accident involving an off-road UTV. Some of his other credits include SEAL Team, where he also worked with showrunner Spencer Hudnut, as well as The Bridge and versions of the CSI franchise. Prop maters are essential for working to ensure that a television world feels realistic, as every little detail works for the sake of immersion. They can also help actors feel far more comfortable in their surroundings.

Marshals has been removed for a season 2, and we feel confident that moving forward, Hancock’s presence will still be felt due to all the groundwork he laid.

Our thoughts and condolences go out to Hancock’s family and loved ones during this difficult time. We hope that the tribute serves as a comfort.
