Widow’s Bay season 1 episode 6: What will Tom’s future be?

One of the truly remarkable things about Widow’s Bay as a greater work of television is that in one way or another, they have you questioning everything. That includes how much of the town is impacted by supernatural occurrences, but then also how much may be human-created.
Ultimately, a great example of all of this comes during episode 5, when you can argue that almost everything that happened was Tom on a wild ride due to a mushroom-induced trip. They clearly want you tossing around these questions in your brain, and for a particularly good reason. This is someone who seemingly created chaos both at a convenience store and also in the midst of a town hall meeting regarding a new curfey.

So what sort of larger question are we getting at here? That’s rather simple: Whether or not Tom is going to continue to be the Mayor of this town the rest of the way. This is someone who clearly had a series of incidents in very-public places and through that, it may be easy to assume that people are going to want him out of his job. If this was an ordinary town, there is a good chance that this would be the case!
However, remember there are two different variables here worth considering.
1. Widow’s Bay is far from an ordinary now. Nobody seems to want to be the Mayor there and through that, they may be more willing to ignore some of Tom’s indiscretions that some other communities would. So long as he can get things back to normal, they may all press on.
2. Did all of the events in this past episode really happen? You can argue that a number of them are just in his head and were presented in the way that they were to confuse us.
