The Boys series finale: Why didn’t Queen Maeve appear?

There are absolutely many things to worth talking about after The Boys series finale, but one in particular is worth discussing now: Why did we not get Queen Maeve?

On paper, we more than understand the desire to have Dominique McElligott reprise her iconic role from the first few seasons. The last we saw Maeve, she was de-powered in the season 3 finale and had a chance to go off and live a normal life. Once upon a time, there was a legitimate thought that she could come back in some form, but it never ended up happening.

So why did we not see this? Well, the only thing we can say here is that showrunner Eric Kripke at least tried to make something happen. In a new interview with Gold Derby, here is at least some of what he had to say on the subject:

I would have loved to have had Maeve. I was in conversation with Dom. We still email once in a while. She’s mostly retired from acting, and her schedule didn’t work out. It was all a very friendly, non-controversial thing. I was like, “If we wrote it, would you do it?” And she’s like, “I’m kind of out of it, and I’m busy, and unfortunately I can’t, but send everyone my love.” That was sort of it.

Ultimately, we do think it would have been nice to see Maeve. However, at the same time, it was never 100% necessary. She wanted a chance to move on and be happy and she got it. We tend to think that the character is off somewhere celebrating the fact that Homelander is gone.
