The Boys season 5 episode 8: Is Jensen Ackles in the series finale?
Given that The Boys season 5 episode 8 marks the series finale, of course this is the proper chance for many questions regarding the show.
So, what is the right place to begin? Well from where we sit, that is rather simple: Who will or will not be a part of it. We know that Frenchie is dead and unless there is a dream sequence coming, we have certainly seen the last of him. The future of the Gen V characters, meanwhile, remains to be seen.

What is a little more surprising in some ways is learning that Soldier Boy is permanently back in his cryochamber and from what we are hearing, he will not turn up again. Speaking to Collider recently, creator Eric Kripke confirmed as much while referencing the Impala line, a nod to Jensen Ackles’ Supernatural role:
Yes, of course. Of course, we did. Knowing that that was going to be Jensen’s last scene in the series, we wanted to put in one last reference. Honestly, Slem wrote and we shot that it was a Ford. It was, “Working on the old Ford.” The danger of having (director) Phil Sgriccia and I, sitting next to each other in editing, which we would do, was that we were watching it and Phil was like, “Should it be ‘Impala’?” And I was like, “Yeah, it probably should be ‘Impala.’” And so, Jensen looped in ‘Impala’ just to do one last nod.
Ultimately, this ending for Soldier Boy does raise an interesting question — is Vought Rising going to be Soldier Boy thinking about his past while locked away? Is there a chance someone eventually lets him out again? There are more questions to think about now, but we may not get more clarity until that prequel airs.
