Half Man episode 5 spoilers: Richard Gadd looks ahead

As we do look towards Half Man episode 5 on HBO next week, we understand fully the need to pull your jaw off the floor. There are only two installments remaining of the show and with that in mind, why not be prepared for just about anything?

Of course, what does complicate the story from here on our is the rather simple idea that we now know how it ends. Just remember that the end of episode 4, we saw Ruben’s body carted away from the wedding. Was he dead? It felt that way and yet, we recognize that it is hard to say anything for sure.

What we can say with confidence is that a lot of episodes 5 and 6 now will be spent building up to that moment, where we finally start to understand who hurt Ruben and how this all came about. Is it Niall trying to seek his revenge, or is there something even greater taking place? Speaking to TV Insider, here is at least some of what Richard Gadd himself had to say about already showing his character being taken off:

“I can’t remember how it came to me, but I knew almost the second I thought, ‘Oh, what about if we reveal that now?’ … In a show that plays with atypical structure, it felt only natural that we shouldn’t end at the very last point of the chronology… in a show about the kind of chaos of structure and time, it felt right not to finish the show at the actual chronological end.”

Do we think that we’re going to build more towards that moment episode 5? Absolutely but at the same time, it is hard to imagine getting all of the answers — at least just yet.
