Outlander season 9: Could a revival ever happen?
Following what we saw this week with the Outlander series finale on Starz, have we truly reached the end of the road for Jamie and Claire?
Well, the first thing to note here is that the show clearly ended the way that it did for a reason — the producers wanted this to feel like a true conclusion to the story. We saw Jamie’s death but at the same time, a possible rebirth. We got an answer to the long-held discussion about Jamie’s ghost. Heck, we even saw a cameo from Diana Gabaldon! It feels like this was written to be an end that is in some ways up for interpretation, and going back at this point for a season 9 would run the risk of taking away from that.

Still, we live in a TV universe at this point where it simply makes a lot of sense to adopt a never-say-never mantra, and we do recognize that Outlander still exists in some ways as a franchise. The prequel Blood of My Blood will be back for a season 2 later this year, and there is certainly still a chance for spin-offs or something more to come about! We’ve long advocated for a Lord John series just because of all the source material that is out there, and we do hope that those conversations keep happening.
If this is truly it, though, what a journey it has been. So few shows, especially on premium cable, ever make it anywhere close to a season 8. The fact that the Caitriona Balfe – Sam Heughan series managed to make it here is an absolutely remarkable fate within itself.
