Half Man episode 4: What happened to Ruben?

Based on what we saw across the first three episodes of Half Man on HBO, we certainly anticipated something big at the end of episode 4. Still, we had no way to prepare for just how shattering the end of the story truly way.

After all, consider the following: We spent a ton of time in the past seeing another chapter of Ruben and Niall’s relationship. Then, we went back to the present in the closing minutes, only to see that something else at the wedding had taken a turn … and Ruben was being carted out! Given the fact that there was a sheet over him, it is not altogether hard to assume that the man is gone.

So what actually happened to Ruben? This is where the questions now lie. Richard Gadd’s character basically hijacked Niall’s wedding from the moment he turned up and through that, it is not too hard to assume that his brother may have pulled whatever strings possible to take him out for good. This means he either killed him himself or had some others help in the effort. No matter how things came about, we have to imagine that this was a result of rage, pain, and heartbreak. There was a reason Ruben was not invited to the ceremony … and then, something like this happened.

As a result of this incident, it is fair that we do not look at the remaining two episodes of the season the same exact way. Half Man has been an extraordinary series from the start, but it now feels like we’re going to somehow see even more gut-punches than we anticipated once upon a time. That is hard to imagine, but it is now the reality.
