America’s Culinary Cup season 2: Is it renewed, canceled at CBS?

Following the big finale tonight on CBS, is there a chance that an America’s Culinary Cup season 2 will happen? Or, is the cooking competition at an end?
Well, first and foremost, we recognize why the network wanted to make this into a big hit. After all, there are so many successful cooking shows on the air, and this one had an established name front and center in Padma Lakshmi of Top Chef fame. It could have worked out, especially with Survivor 50 as a lead-in.

As it turns out, though, the numbers just leave a good bit to be desired. While America’s Culinary Cup is not officially canceled, the ratings have not been great. CBS has tried over the years to find some sort of new reality TV hit and we understand that, given that Survivor, The Amazing Race, and Big Brother are all extremely deep in their runs. They’ve tried to adapt The Challenge with their own talent or tried survival shows like The Summit, but nothing has landed. The closest thing that they had for a while in Tough as Nails.
If we do get a season 2…
We certainly think that there would have to be some changes. If we were CBS, we’d at this point go even harder to get some established reality TV chefs. There are some familiar faces on the show already, but why not add to that?
One way or another, we do think that over the next several weeks, we are going to have a chance to learn something more about the future here. We do tend to think that even if this show concludes, there will be other opportunities for Padma in the food world. How can there not be, given that she has been in this space for so many years?
